Program Description:

Program Through site visits, conversations, and lectures, students will immerse themselves in Costa Rican culture and the daily lives of communities in the southern Caribbean province of Limon.  Students will learn about the dominant cultural narrative (The White Legend/White Myth) that excludes the voices of Indigenous people, migrants, and Blacks and learn how this narrative affects the health and well-being of populations in San Jose and Talamanca.    Students will listen to and document the voices of Indigenous, immigrant, and Afro-Costa Rican people and produce a Vlog or video project to share with the Costa Rican community at the UCR, in La Carpio, and in Talamanca as well as the SHU community.  Discussions and reflections will promote critical thinking about global issues of health equity and social justice.
