Program Description:
The PA Clinical Rotation in Spain is open to second year Physician Assistant students.  The global health clinical rotation in Spain, managed in collaboration with GlobalEd Abroad will provide students with the opportunity for multilevel global health clinical learning, with an emphasis on cultural competence and interdisciplinary learning. The goals of this program are designed to support and are aligned with the learning objectives and outcomes of the Physician Assistant Studies clinical curriculum. This program is four weeks offered in October for PA students interested in a clinical rotation abroad. The program offers the opportunity for program participants to further enhance their preparation for a career in medicine while enhancing cultural competence skills immersed in another culture. Students may take a one week intensive Spanish course (optional), participate in a variety of optional weekly activities, have time to explore on their own, while performing clinical rotations in a local medical facility under the supervision of an assigned preceptor.

Program Objectives

By the end of the Global Health Clinical Rotation, the PA student will be able to:
  1. Describe the social determinants of health in the area and their effect on the health status of the patients, families, and communities.
  2. Demonstrate medical knowledge of common primary care acute and chronic conditions.
  3. Demonstrate clinical reasoning and problem-solving abilities to develop an appropriate differential and most likely diagnosis for common acute and chronic primary care conditions.
  4. Recognize the impact of culture, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, age, gender and abilities and the relationship to health and health beliefs.
