Program Description:
The SHU Delegation will be living in a small community in Kingston, Jamaica, ran by the organization Mustard Seed Communities (MSC). Students will assist in the activities of Mustard Seed ranging from spending time with the local community, playing with children, building/repairing homes or schools, etc. MSC provides residential care to over 400 children and adults in 13 homes across Jamaica. The populations we care for comprise the most vulnerable groups in Jamaican society: children and adults with disabilities, children affected by HIV/AIDS, and young mothers in crisis.

Students and Campus Ministry staff may organize additional meetings prior to the trip to discuss important information.
Accommodations Cost of all housing is included in the fee paid to Mustard Seed Communities. Sophie's Place in Gordon Town (just outside of Kingston) has a mission dormitory on site. The dorm has a wing and bathroom(s) for each gender with 12 beds in the male room & 12 in the female room. A single room is available for clergy.

All meals in Jamaica will be provided. The only meals that are NOT provided by SHU are those in the airport traveling to/from Jamaica.

Costs Total cost per student is $1,700. This includes airfare, housing, transportation to/from SHU, all transportation in Jamaica, and the majority of meals.

All checks should be made payable to “Sacred Heart University.”

There will be no deadline extensions for these payments. All students are responsible for their own program fees. Fundraising is encouraged, both on an individual and group basis. However, each student is responsible for handing in their own individual payments on the dates above. Late payments will jeopardize a student’s participation in the program.
